Born in Gouverneur, Charles Henry Rosskam is an example of many Gouverneur natives who have left the area to make their career and fortunes. Charles was the owner of the Chicago Stock Company, which for many years, played in theaters all over the US and Canada. Rosskam guided actors and artists for plays as their coach and producer. In the local paper of 1910, The Gouverneur Free Press, boasted of former Charles H. RossKam... that he was "making good" and his hometown was proud of him.

There have been many people from Gouverneur who have left the area and "made good." Some people are born here and stay in town and contribute, but some leave the area to make their careers and families. Many return to Northern New York when they can, and some even come back to retire in the North Country.

Charles was born in Gouverneur on October 28, 1872. He never returned to Gouverneur once he set off to build his career as a manager of a Stock Theater Company.

Charles died in 1954, at the age of 82, in Cape May, New Jersey, another example of a "Former Gouverneur Boy Meeting with Great Success."

(Stock Company: a troupe of actors performing regularly in a particular theatre, presenting a different play nightly from its repertory of prepared productions. (www.britannica.com).
