ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The booklet, Who was Gouverneur Morris, was a project commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 50th anniversary of the Gouverneur Museum, founded in 1976. The Gouverneur Historical Association is keenly interested in publicizing the contribution of Gouverneur Morris as one of our principal Founding Fathers. Gouverneur wrote the Preamble to the Constitution (We the People...) and was widely considered to have written the final draft of the Constitution. And he is our community's namesake.

Joseph Laurenza, the President of the Gouverneur Historical Association, shown here with a stand-up Gouverneur Morris, researched fourteen aspects of the man's life and created small summaries. He turned the articles over to Shari Barnhart and Lea Dickson, who acted as editors/and desktop publishers. Rachel Hunter, feature writer and News Editor at the Tribune Press, will post the short articles weekly.
